Senior Desktop Support/SCCM Engineer, Public Sector

Our public sector client are currently looking for a Senior Desktop Support/SCCM Engineer to join them on a 9 month contract in Swindon.

Please note: this role is inside IR35 and involves occasional travel.

Key tasks & deliverables for the Senior Desktop Support/SCCM Engineer

  • General maintenance and configuration of SCCM

  • Creation/updating/removal of applications/software packages for workstations in SCCM

  • Maintain Windows Updates deployment process

  • Create/Update SCCM queries for reporting and deployment

  • Build/Maintain Windows 10 Image, Global Task Sequence and deployment process

  • Maintain Office 365 installation, XML files, update settings

  • Review/Maintain Windows 10 Group Policies

  • Packaging tasks from request through UAT and deployment

  • Providing additional resource to ensure requirements of EUC service is met – including taking on tasks escalated from Desktop Support

  • Review inventory of applications installed and categorise

  • Maintain driver packages and boot images

  • Implementation of new products and technologies for workstations

  • Deliver training and offer shadowing opportunities to in house IT staff, enabling colleagues to remove dependencies on third parties for common tasks

  • The SCCM engineer will be responsible for the development and configuration of Microsoft SCCM and implementation of EUC policies.

  • They will be required to deliver SCCM training to in house IT staff, enabling colleagues to remove dependencies on third parties for common tasks

Key Skills & Experience the Senior Desktop Support/SCCM Engineer should have


  • IT degree or equivalent SCCM deployment experience (3+ years)

  • Excellent communication and training skills

  • Ability to build strong working relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Windows 10

  • Office 365 (XML file maintenance and deployment)

  • Windows Update (Deployment using SCCM)

  • Group Policy

  • Understanding of packaging methods/files types


  • ITIL foundation

  • MDT and SCCM OSD experience preferred

  • Ability to prioritise workload

  • Experience of Cherwell and ServiceNow as ITSM tools
