My client a leading Asset Manager is currently looking for a Infrastructure Engineer/Windows Server Engineer to join an existing Infrastructure Services team.

Overview of the Role 

The Infrastructure Services team is committed to providing exceptional IT Infrastructure services to the business globally. The Infrastructure Support Engineer will be responsible for day to day administration of core infrastructure components as well have having project delivery responsibilities for infrastructure related projects and will be willing to switch between BAU tasks and project tasks as required.

The Infrastructure Support Engineer must be passionate about technology, dedicated to ensuring operational stability, delivery project tasks in a timely fashion and to high quality and must be committed to driving automation wherever possible and change where necessary.

The engineer is expected to have a broad range of infrastructure skills to bring to the team including Microsoft Server, Virtualisation (VMware) and networking and automation/Scripting. This role will join the infrastructure services team of staff covering Server, Storage, Networks, Voice and Messaging technologies.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Experience with SCCM 2012/2016 and SCOM

  • Strong experience with MS Server 2008/2016

  • Excellent understanding of enterprise level infrastructure components and systems for a global organisation

  • Expert knowledge of wide range of Microsoft technologies including Active Directory and Group Policy and DFS-R

  • Proven experience of implementing and managing Microsoft ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services)

  • Proven experience implementing and managing Microsoft PKI an certificate services

  • Expert knowledge of VMware vCenter and vSphere design, configuration and administration including SRM and vSAN. (VCP6 or equvilent experience)

  • Proven experience using Microsoft SCCM to deploy Microsoft patching

  • Proven experience using Microsoft SCOM for infrastructure monitoring

  • Automation skills a must. Scripting, infrastructure as code, strong PowerShell skills are mandatory

  • Ability to configure and administer infrastructure monitoring systems

  • ITIL based service management (ITIL Certification desirable)

  • Excellent understanding of network and server security concepts

  • Proven experience creating and maintaining infrastructure design or operational documentation

  • Understanding of data centre management practices and standards

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality infrastructure project deliverables in a timely manner working in conjunction with the Infrastructure Architecture team.

  • Identify and resolve incidents and problems promptly and effectively. Conduct incident root cause analysis, resolution and/or escalations. Liaise with the wider technology teams to coordinate inter dependencies and resolve issues.

  • Identify and monitor daily activities, including change requests, project deliverables and 3rd line call queue responsibilities.

  • Proactively monitor and report on availability, performance and capacity for infrastructure systems.

  • Ensure operational monitoring and alerting tools are fit for purpose, correctly configured and up to date on an ongoing basis (currently Microsoft SCOM).

  • Manage patching of various infrastructure systems and components in line with the corporate patching policy using SCCM)

  • Ensure infrastructure service SLA's are met and an exceptional level of customer service is provided.

  • Update and maintain operational documentation eg Infrastructure wiki.

  • Champion automation where ever possible, you must have proven ability to script and automate (Strong PowerShell skills necessary)

  • Effective provisioning, operation and maintenance of systems hardware and software.

  • Produce and continuously review and improve Infrastructure Management Information (MI) and ensure timely delivery on a monthly basis.

  • Adhere to defined process and change control but also provide input around areas for improvement.

  • Review and accept operational handover documents for new or updated infrastructure systems delivered by projects.

  • Provide input into technology roadmap and shape core infrastructure globally in line with firm ambitions.

  • Actively engage in developing the team's processes and procedures to achieve increased service performance and availability and remove single person dependency.

  • Ensure that DR readiness is maintained for all designated systems and that all team members are familiar with what is required.

  • Work weekends and provide out of hours support as and when required.
